Monday 19/03/2012

The Balun building and testing continued.  After testing our original design Steve has found that the Balun had a SWR of 1.5 to 1 across the whole of the HF bands. He found a couple of designs which seem to work much better so we will be rewinding the toroids next week.

We had a visit from Derek and Sue and I think they both enjoyed the time spent playing on Monday.

Chris was operating HF with the clubs new Kenwood TS-2000 with good success.

Warren and David were playing with some QRP military radio on 6 metres.

We have looked at Linux, and most of us have played the Ubuntu distribution. Steve found this in his local supermarket:

Monday 12/03/2012

Denis and I were away last week doing a Club talk for the Coulsdon Amateur Transmitting Society.  Ian also attended this meeting and I am sure everyone enjoyed the evening.

This coming week we will be continuing the building of our Balun boxes for our off centre dipoles as well as operating and many other topics being discussed.

Why not join us Monday Night?

Monday 05/03/2012

Notice:
The Banstead Scout Hut will be closed on Monday Night 12/03/2012. We will be back to normal next week.

Another good turn out with lots happening to keep us busy.  Laurence operated HF on the club radio and made a few contacts.

We sat down with Paul and gave him an update on the subjects covered on the intermediate course.

Then most of us started building an off center dipole. We all managed to build the four to one balun by winding turns onto a toroid ring and most were tested as working. I must get a box and complete this balun.

Monday 27/02/2012

Our two younger members Alex and Laurence spent some time operating on HF with the new Club radio the Kenwood TS-2000.

Stuart had a bit of a shack clear out and turns up with some surplus items. These he offered to club members who all departed at the end of the evening very happy.

Denis and Barry were playing with the green stuff (Military Radio) :-) David and Warren were playing with some vintage kit.

We are going to be building some HF antennas within the next few weeks and parts are being order now. If you want to take part in the antenna build session please contact Denis or Steve.

All this plus various discussion topics while the tea and coffee was flowing.
