I took my dual band Alinco mobile to the club and found that there was a lift on two metres allowing me to work a repeater in Cheddar Somerset, about 120 miles away on FM.

Denis was fixing some military gear for Barry. The Kenwood TS-2000 was in use in the back room.

We also had a debrief meeting on our JOTA weekend to see what we could do better next year

Chris 2E0CTH, Martin M0SGL and I are back from the RSGB convention. I think five club members attended this event over the weekend.

The Kenwood TS2000 was in use in the back room and others of us were discussing the upcoming JOTA event with the 7th Banstead Scouts.

Steve was showing us his new toy, a YouKits FG-01 Antenna analyzer. This is a nice bit of kit.

Chris was showing us MMANA-GAL free antenna modelling software.

Neil completed the practical assessments with Paul for his Intermediate exam.

Plus various discussion on radio topics.

Another great Monday night playing with radio and other things.

Alex was operating in the back room; Chris was showing his raspberry pi computer sending Morse and Steve showed us a couple of projects he had completed.

Steve showed us his homebrew voice keyer which he believes will interface with any radio. This worked very well and looks great. Steve’s second project was a Precision Voltage Reference, full details can be found at:http://www.w3fpr.com/

Monday 01/10/12

Lots happened this Monday night.

John has got a new toy , Its a Yaesu FT-757GX which we checked for him and found it to be working well.

Chris has been helping John get ready for his first VHF contact by explaining what you have to do on the training course practicals. Once John was happy we got him to make his first VHF contact. Thats another part of his foundation practical course done.

Some of the guys were doing practice surface mount soldering on old computer boards. This is in preparation for a surface mount kit they will be building shortly.

I managed to reprogram my mobile rig now that GB3NS has returned to its old frequency after the olympics.

Denis was showing us his new Raspberry Pi computer on which he had the old BBC micro operating system.

Tea and coffee was an all night .

All in all the evening was over too quickly.
