Monday 04/04/2001

Last week Alun and Steve did the 80 metres CW contest. Warren showed us a radio new to him. It was a 1935 Philips Radio and it worked. Warren will be renovating this over the next few weeks.

David showed us a Racal RA17 he has been working on and also had it working before he re-cases it.

You never know what is going to turn up here at the play night. Colin (M0NLP) turned up with this piece of kit. Brand new still in its original box purchased just after World War II as surplus. It’s been packed away in a loft for over 65 years.

What is it?

An   RT-7/APN-1

Radar Altimeter, 420-460 MHz, Doppler frequency shift, dual scale meter 0-400 and 0-4000 feet, TO AN 16-30APN1-4, Output 0.1 W, 14 or 28 VDC, Major components

The RT-7/APN-1 is a Transmitter-receiver, part of the system.

Neil (M0ZEY) had a FM receiver kit that was not working. We had a quick look but could not get it to work.

We are always up to something each Monday.

Monday 21/03/2011

Last week I was away giving a club talk to the CATS club. I believe various activities took place as normal.

This week there was some operating as normal chats. David G2BOF visited us and donated a number of antennas to the group. Many thanks to David as these will be very useful at the scout hut.

I powered up a Heathkit SW 717 I purchased at a rally last year. I have not had the time look at this radio before now.

It basically works however it has mains hum and the selectivity is not very good. This will become an ongoing project.

Another busy evening playing radio in Banstead. There ways some Dstar operating, some HF operating, radio repairs as well as a small discussion group taking place Monday night.

Stuart was building his radio kit which is part of his practical assessment and it worked first time.

Colin M6BOY was over from Ireland and enjoyed his visit.
